Compassion Fatigue results in mistake-making, withdrawal, apathy, and exhaustion. It is created by prolonged & ongoing exposure to  suffering & trauma, at work. It is sometimes referred to as secondary or vicarious PTSD.   This session will distinguish Compassion Fatigue from Burnout, identify its causes and consequences, and provide tools to empower clinicians to reduce the occurrence and the intensity of Compassion Fatigue.

Desired Outcomes:

  • Recognize Compassion Fatigue in colleagues and in themselves.
  • Differentiate Compassion Fatigue from Burnout.
  • Review the relationship between Compassion Fatigue & physician suicide.
  • Employ Compassion Fatigue Reduction Tools.
