Free
Andrew S. McCague, DO, Trauma and Critical Care Surgeon, Co-Director, ICU, Natividad Medical Center

presented by Andrew S. McCague, DO

Approximately 35% of significant injuries occur as the result of accidents in the very environment that should be the most sheltering and nurturing to children. Most pediatric trauma occurs as a result of blunt trauma, with penetrating injury accounting for 10-20% of all pediatric trauma admissions at most centers. We will review basic approaches to pediatric trauma including case presentations and literature review. We will review NMC policies regarding pediatric trauma activations.

Desired Outcomes:

  • Employ Best Practices in the pediatric trauma
  • Review the nuances in pediatric trauma
  • Examine the roles of providers involved with pediatric trauma care
  • Restate NMC policies on pediatric trauma
