OB Grand Rounds: Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Pathway for Cesarean Sections
March 26 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PDT
Presented By: Anna Kong, MD
The concept of an enhanced recovery program, ERAS, following elective surgery was developed more than 15 years ago. It refers to multimodal care pathways designed to accelerate patient recovery by reducing the surgical stress response and supporting the patient’s physiologic function. These procedures and anesthesia-specific pathways form an integrated continuum, as the patient moves from home through the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgery and returns home again.
- Review the ERAS pathways for cesarean sections.
- Incorporate strategies for patient and family engagement.
- Discuss the application of multimodal pain interventions to reduce the reliance on opioid-based medications.
