NATIVIDAD Grand Rounds: Stroke Update
April 24 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PDT
Presented by Zachary David Threlkeld, MD
The treatment of acute ischemic stroke is rapidly evolving, and recently published literature is revolutionizing the way we think about and treat ischemic stroke. A large number of stroke patients who would not have had any treatment options even one year ago are now potentially eligible for new treatments. This activity is designed to improve recognition of expanded treatment eligibility and highlights the differences between current stroke treatment practices, cutting-edge imaging-based treatment, and the future of stroke care.
The activity will update attendees on the rapidly evolving treatment options for acute ischemic stroke. During this session, we will describe the acute triage and management of ischemic stroke, including the latest recommendations for the use of intravenous tPA and endovascular technology and highlight the most recent practice-changing studies and updates to the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association guidelines.
- Recognize indications and eligibility criteria for administration of intravenous tPA for acute ischemic stroke
- Recognize indications and eligibility criteria for endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
- Describe recent developments in the management of acute ischemic stroke, including new treatment options and longer treatment eligibility windows
